What the Garrett G35-900 is

The G35-900 is a Garrett G-Series mid-frame turbo rated at 550 to 900 horsepower, with a 62 / 76 mm, 65 trim compressor wheel in a 0.72 A/R housing, a larger 68 / 62 mm, 84 trim Mar-M turbine wheel than the G30-900, and a maximum speed of 145,000 rpm. Garrett’s page gives the engine size as 2.0 to 5.5 liters in its specification and 2.0 to 3.5 liters in its title. Garrett sells supercores (880695-5001S standard, 880696-5001S reverse) and complete standard-rotation turbos with an internally wastegated V-band housing (880707-5002S, 0.83 A/R; 880707-5003S, 1.01 A/R); its newer G-Series II turbo in this size is the G35-990.

This page lists Garrett’s G35-900 turbos in standard and reverse rotation with V-band housings from 0.61 to 1.21 A/R, the internally wastegated versions, versions with a T3 open-inlet housing, and the CHRAs. Garrett’s own guidance on turbine housings: a smaller A/R gives quicker boost response and more turbine power at low engine speed; a larger A/R lets the wheel flow more, with lower back pressure and more power at high engine speed.
