What the Garrett G30-900 is

The G30-900 is a Garrett G-Series turbo that Garrett places in the most powerful mid-frame series on the market, rated at 550 to 900 horsepower on engines of 2.0 to 3.5 liters. It has a 62 / 76 mm, 65 trim compressor wheel in a 0.72 A/R housing, a 60 / 55 mm, 84 trim turbine wheel and a maximum speed of 145,000 rpm. Garrett sells supercores (880693-5003S standard, 880694-5003S reverse) and complete standard-rotation turbos with an internally wastegated V-band housing (880704-5008S, 0.83 A/R; 880704-5009S, 1.01 A/R).

This page lists G30-900 turbos in standard and reverse rotation with V-band housings from 0.61 to 1.21 A/R, internally wastegated versions, T3 open-inlet, T31 and T4 housings, and the CHRAs. Garrett’s own guidance on turbine housings: a smaller A/R gives quicker boost response and more turbine power at low engine speed; a larger A/R lets the wheel flow more, with lower back pressure and more power at high engine speed.
