What the Garrett GTX3576R is

The GTX3576R is part of Garrett’s GTX line; Garrett’s current version is the GTX3576R Gen II, rated at 400 to 750 horsepower on engines of 2.0 to 4.5 liters (calculated from compressor flow). It has an 8 mm dual ceramic ball bearing cartridge, a 58 / 76 mm compressor wheel and a 68 / 62 mm turbine wheel, a maximum speed of 145,000 rpm, and comes as a supercore in standard (851154-5003S) and reverse rotation (844626-5003S) for free-float turbine housings (T3, T4 or V-band inlet). Garrett says the Gen II compressor wheel gives up to 20% more horsepower than the earlier version and that Gen II turbos fit the same space as Gen I, although Gen II compressor housings do not fit Gen I wheels; the Gen I GTX3576R is in Garrett’s archive of models no longer in production.

This page lists Gen II turbos with divided and undivided T3 turbine housings from 0.61 to 1.01 A/R, a version with an internally wastegated RB25DET-style T3 housing, reverse-rotation turbos with V-band housings, bolt-on kits for the Mazdaspeed3, the reverse-rotation supercore and CHRA, a Gen I turbo without turbine housing and its CHRA, and a compressor housing. Garrett’s own guidance on turbine housings: a smaller A/R gives quicker boost response and more turbine power at low engine speed; a larger A/R lets the wheel flow more, with lower back pressure and more power at high engine speed.
