What the Garrett G30-660 is

The G30-660 is a Garrett G-Series turbo with an 8 mm dual ceramic ball bearing cartridge, a 54 / 67 mm, 65 trim compressor wheel in a 0.70 A/R housing and a 60 / 55 mm, 84 trim Mar-M turbine wheel rated to 1,050 °C; maximum speed 165,000 rpm. Garrett rates it at 350 to 660 horsepower; its page gives the engine size as 2.0 to 3.5 liters in the specification line and 1.4 to 3.0 liters in the text. Garrett sells supercores (880693-5001S standard, 880694-5001S reverse) and complete standard-rotation turbos with an internally wastegated V-band housing (880704-5002S, 0.83 A/R; 880704-5003S, 1.01 A/R); its newer G-Series II turbo in this size is the G30-725.

This page lists G30-660 turbos in standard and reverse rotation with V-band housings from 0.61 to 1.21 A/R, internally wastegated versions, T3 open-inlet, T31 and divided T4 housings, the supercores (listed as partial turbos), the CHRAs and bolt-on kits for the Ford Focus ST 2.0L EcoBoost. Garrett’s own guidance on turbine housings: a smaller A/R gives quicker boost response and more turbine power at low engine speed; a larger A/R lets the wheel flow more, with lower back pressure and more power at high engine speed.
