Quick Overview
The Garrett GTB1756VK and GTB2260VK are both small variable geometry turbos with electronic actuators, built for passenger-car and SUV diesels. The numbers give the size: the GTB1756VK is a 17-frame turbo with a 56 mm compressor wheel, and the GTB2260VK is a 22-frame turbo with a 60 mm wheel.
They serve different engines. The GTB1756VK was fitted to the VM Motori 2.8L CRD four-cylinder (Jeep Wrangler JK, Dodge Nitro, Chevrolet Colorado outside North America) and the Land Rover 4.4L TDV8. The GTB2260VK is the turbo on 3.0L six-cylinder diesels from Volkswagen and Audi (Q7, Touareg, A6) and BMW (the last M57 version in the 525d, 530d, 325d and 330d). Neither was fitted to a Ford Power Stroke, and they are not interchangeable.
Which Spools Faster?
The smaller GTB1756VK builds boost sooner on a given exhaust flow, which is why it was matched to a 2.8L four-cylinder. The GTB2260VK needs the exhaust energy of a 3.0L six to come alive and then keeps pulling further up the range. Both use variable vanes to sharpen low-speed response, so each feels responsive on the engine it was built for.
Which Supports More Power?
The GTB2260VK moves more air: larger frame, larger compressor wheel, and a larger engine behind it. The GTB1756VK is sized for less airflow. Comparing them directly is of limited use, because you cannot fit one in place of the other.
Which Is Right for Your Application?
- Jeep Wrangler (JK) or Dodge Nitro 2.8 CRD: the GTB1756VK (Garrett 796911 series).
- Range Rover 4.4 TDV8 (2010-2012), or Range Rover and Range Rover Sport 4.4 SDV8 (2013 on): the GTB1756VK (Garrett 802733 series). This is the engine’s variable geometry primary turbo; the engine has a second, fixed geometry turbo as well.
- Audi Q7, A6 or Volkswagen Touareg 3.0 TDI: the GTB2260VK (Garrett 776470 series).
- BMW 525d, 530d, 325d or 330d with the last version of the M57 engine (M57TU2): the GTB2260VK (Garrett 758351 and 758352 series).
- Chevrolet Colorado or GMC Canyon 2.8L Duramax, North America, 2016 on: neither. That engine uses the GTB1752VKL, which has its own GTB1752VK and GTB1752VKL guide.
Rebuild Considerations
Both rebuild the same way: full teardown, vane ring cleaned and freed of soot, new bearings and seals, a balanced rotating assembly, and the electronic actuator tested for full travel. On either model the usual faults are soot-stuck vanes and a worn actuator. Versions of each turbo share the model name but not the housings, so parts are ordered by the assembly number on the tag.

How to Tell Them Apart
The reliable way to tell a Garrett GTB1756VK from a GTB2260VK is the identification tag, not appearance alone. The housings on adjacent frame sizes within the same family can look similar at a glance, so confirm the model designation and assembly number stamped or plated on the unit before ordering rebuild parts. Exact configuration (wheel trim, housing A/R, calibration) varies by specific part and assembly number even within the same model name, so the assembly number is what actually determines which parts are correct for your unit.

Pricing
Most rebuilds require inspection before final pricing. Standard rebuild pricing depends on the turbo model, parts availability, wheel condition, shaft condition, housing damage, and whether upgrades are requested.
