What the BorgWarner S500 is
The S500 is a large Schwitzer turbo frame, built by BorgWarner since it bought Kuhlman Corporation and its Schwitzer group in 1999. BorgWarner’s catalog lists an S500C with a water-cooled bearing housing for the 2006-2010 Volvo Penta D16 marine engine at 553 kW (1500-970-0000) and an S500G with an electric actuator for the Deutz TCD 16.0 V8 at 520 kW from 2014 (1500-970-0026); distributors list S500 numbers for the Deutz TCD2015V08 15.9 liter at 680 hp from 2008 and the Volvo Penta D12 marine engine. BorgWarner’s AirWerks S500SX-E performance turbo is rated at 900 to 1,875 hp, with twin hydrodynamic journal bearings.
