About This T04E Carbon Seal Conversion Kit

The Garrett T04E is one of the most widely used turbocharger platforms in performance and commercial applications — found in factory diesel truck installations, industrial equipment, marine engines, and countless aftermarket performance builds. The original T04E uses a piston ring oil seal design that performs well under normal operating conditions but breaks down under sustained high boost, high shaft speeds, or intermittent oil starvation — all common in modified applications.

This conversion kit upgrades the T04E from the standard piston ring seal to a carbon face seal arrangement, combined with a new billet seal plate. Carbon seals provide positive contact sealing that remains effective even with elevated shaft temperatures and conditions where piston rings allow oil migration.
