Need Turbo Core Exchange Service?

Nationwide mail-in service. 12-month unlimited mileage warranty. In-house CIMAT VSR balancing on every rebuild.

What This Service Is

A turbo core exchange is the fastest way to get a working turbocharger back on your vehicle without paying full retail or waiting on a one-off rebuild. You send us your worn or failed unit, which we call the core, and that core becomes a credit toward a rebuilt or remanufactured replacement that ships out to you. Instead of tearing down your specific turbo and making you wait days or weeks while it sits on the bench, we pull a unit that has already been rebuilt, tested, and shelved ready to go.

The cores we receive get fully inspected, cleaned, machined where needed, and rebuilt to go back into circulation for the next customer. That recirculation loop is what keeps your cost down and your downtime short. You are essentially buying into a pool of professionally restored units rather than paying for the full price and labor of a brand new turbo every time.

When You Need It

  • Your turbo has failed outright and the vehicle is down, so you need a replacement shipped fast instead of waiting on a custom rebuild.
  • You are getting blue or gray smoke from worn seals and oil is making its way into the intake or exhaust.
  • The shaft has play you can feel by hand, with the compressor or turbine wheel contacting the housing.
  • You found a spun or destroyed bearing after an oil starvation event and the core is too far gone to economically rebuild on its own.
  • You run a fleet or shop and want predictable cost and turnaround rather than quoting each repair from scratch.
  • Your original housing is cracked or damaged but still holds a usable core deposit value toward an exchange unit.

Our Process

When your order comes in, we match your application and ship a replacement unit that has already gone through our full rebuild process. Every exchange turbo is disassembled down to the bare housings, hot tanked and cleaned, then inspected for shaft wear, bearing condition, wheel damage, and housing cracks. Center sections are rebuilt with new bearings, seals, and thrust components, and the rotating assembly is balanced so it spins true at high RPM.

Once your old core arrives back to us, we evaluate it the same way. A rebuildable core clears your deposit and goes into the queue to be restored for the next customer. If the core comes back with non-standard damage like missing parts, a cracked center housing, or wheels that took out the bores, we let you know before any core charge adjustment so there are no surprises.

Why It Matters

Skipping the exchange route or buying a cheap untested core means you can end up installing a unit that was never properly inspected or balanced, and that turbo can fail again within weeks. A poorly handled core program also leaves you exposed to surprise charges or a useless deposit if nobody actually checks whether your returned core is rebuildable. Doing this right means the unit you bolt on is held to the same standard as a full rebuild, your downtime stays measured in days instead of weeks, and your core value is verified honestly instead of guessed at.

Frequently Asked Questions

What exactly is a core?
The core is your old turbocharger, the physical unit coming off the vehicle. It carries value because the housings and many internal parts can be cleaned, machined, and rebuilt to go back into service.
How much credit do I get for my core?
Core value depends on the specific turbo model and the condition it comes back in. We quote the core charge up front, and a complete rebuildable core earns full credit once we inspect it.
What makes a core non-rebuildable?
Cracked center housings, missing or wrong internal parts, severe wheel damage that scored the bores, or a unit that has been welded or modified. If your core comes back in that condition we contact you before adjusting any charge.
How fast can I get my replacement?
Because exchange units are rebuilt and shelved ahead of time, most replacements ship right after your order is placed rather than waiting on a bench rebuild. That is the main reason customers choose exchange.
Do I have to send my core in first?
No. In most cases we ship your replacement and you return the old core afterward. Your core deposit is settled once it arrives and passes inspection.
Is a remanufactured exchange turbo as good as a new one?
A properly remanufactured unit is rebuilt with new bearings, seals, and thrust parts, then balanced and tested. For the vast majority of applications it performs to the same standard as new at a lower cost.
What if my turbo is a rare or unusual model?
Some applications have limited core availability. Contact us with your part numbers and vehicle details and we will tell you whether an exchange unit is on the shelf or whether a direct rebuild of your own core makes more sense.
How long do I have to return my core?
We give you a set return window, typically a few weeks, so you have time to install and confirm everything is right before sending the old unit back. We will confirm the exact terms with your order.
