About the T3 Compressor Housing Gasket

The T3 turbocharger compressor housing gasket seals the joint between the compressor housing and the center section (bearing housing) of the turbocharger. Unlike the exhaust housing gasket — which withstands extreme heat from the turbine side — the compressor housing gasket operates in a cooler, higher-pressure environment, sealing compressed intake air against the center section mating surface.

Although the compressor side of the turbo runs considerably cooler than the turbine side, this gasket is critical to turbocharger performance. A failed compressor housing gasket allows pressurized air to escape before it reaches the intercooler and intake manifold, causing a loss of boost that is often difficult to trace without systematic inspection of each connection point in the charge air path.

When to Replace the T3 Compressor Housing Gasket

Compressor housing gasket replacement is recommended in several situations:

• Any time the compressor housing is removed from the center section — the gasket does not re-seal reliably once it has been disturbed and subjected to a heat cycle.
• When diagnosing an unexplained boost leak that cannot be located at intercooler pipes, couplers, blow-off valves, or the exhaust housing gasket.
• During any complete turbocharger rebuild, when all gaskets should be replaced as a standard procedure rather than only replacing the ones that have visibly failed.
• When installing a used T3 turbocharger — replace all gaskets before installation rather than after the first failure in service.

T3 Compressor Housing Gasket Fitment

This gasket fits the standard Garrett T3 turbocharger compressor housing bolt pattern. The T3 platform includes numerous factory and aftermarket variants. The standard T3 uses a four-bolt pattern attaching the compressor housing to the center section. If you are uncertain whether your turbo is a standard T3 configuration, this four-bolt count is the quickest confirmation method.

T3/T4 hybrid turbos typically use the T3 compressor housing on a T4 turbine housing — these hybrid units use the same compressor housing gasket as a standard T3 and are compatible with this part.
